Painted in the January of 2023. January is always a weird month, we go into it a bit foggy from all the Christmas BS and then the bleakness hits us, all of it. The bad days are grey and bleak and seem to go on forever, it's a 5 week month, we got paid early in December AND we spent most of it. The good days are when I remember to be creative, do exercise, connect with friends, eat well and go to bed early. In these two paintings on paper I printed some of my photos in black and white hiding them amongst collage layers of linear printed pattern. I mixed in looping gestural marks, with paint, pens and pastels. I created my personal expression of the good and bad, lost and found feelings that were with me in that month, in monochrome with hints of colour reflecting the time of year. The dullness taking over the faded previous month's abandon, extravagance and array of colour.
