I started my creative life a long time ago when I was very little and drew on my Mums brand new 8ft curtains in our posh family lounge!
My interest in creativity flourished at school and I later attended art school for 3 years studying fashion design which I loved. However, the business of fashion was not for me and after an insightful year of working behind stage at a few London theatres (with the notion of switching to costume design) I then changed direction completely and took opportunities that allowed me to travel and earn.
Through my years of working and then later being a home maker I have always nurtured my creativity having taken part in many local art classes and running my own art classes within primary schools voluntarily. However, it wasn’t until lock down that I found time and space to focus and really start to find my essence with taking online classes that allowed me to express freely and blend all that I’ve learnt along the way.
In combination with all the learning I have very strong family ties that are extremely important to me, they not only offer support but influence everything I do on a surface with paint.
With my children virtually all grown up I took over the use of the family playroom in our home and turned it into a studio. It’s my creative hub that I share with our two very noisy and bossy miniature Daschunds.
I paint in many layers and often start with collage and texture sometimes using stencils and texture paste and gels. I like to make gestural and intuitive marks often incorporating personal symbols. As well as acrylic paint, I use pastels, pens, and oil sticks hoping that some of these may show through subsequent paint layers.
In painting like this I feel a total sense of freedom and abandonment.
My paintings can change radically from their gestural and playful beginnings and transform completely when resolved to a more thoughtful completion.
